Summer Lakefest - Stockton, MO
July 15-17, 2005

How can accurately describe this weekend. It was a cross between extreme water sports and some serious small town bowling excitement.

The Weekend all started out with Matt, Cerena, Myself and Jenny caravaning down to Stockton Missouri (Population 1960). We quickly met up with Annette and Chris with their very fast Seadoo around 9:00pm. We found some very nice camping spots across the road from the lake and set up camp. Pappa John and Leah met up soon after and a few beers and a nice campfire finished off the evening.

We all awoke early the next morning to a beautiful sun filled day and exceptional views of a very smooth Stockton Lake. Jeff pulled up as Pappa John was using his pimpin grill to serve up breakfast. Everyone quickly changed into swimsuits and it was off to the boat ramps. I would like to add that I backed the boat into the water on my first try and did not end up in the gravel either. With Chris and Annette on their Seadoo, and everyone else loaded up in the Crownie we were off to a quiet cove for some early morning water skiing. Matt was the first up and slaloming like a pro. Jeff followed suit with an equally excellent run. The water was warm, the sky was blue, the tunes were jammin, and it was time for some Bonzai abuse (Bonzai being our 2 person tube designed for some serious water fun!) We started out slowly, with Jenny and Cerena first, then Pappa John and Leah. Things quickly escalated as the competion mounted for the Bonzai Champion. The next several hours consisted of nauseating 30-40mph turns and awesome spills. Everyone then took turns riding the Seadoo and relaxing on the water. We headed back to the dock at noon for some lunch and rest but were quickly back at it again. We next headed out to an island for some cliff diving. I am not sure if the pictures do justice as to how high the cliffs were, but they were pretty intimidating from the top. Chris, Jeff, Cerena, Jenny and I took on the cliffs as Matt sacrificed his turn to take pictures. Soon it was time for more tubing. Cerena took the lead with some very nice turns and big air jumps. She quickly called Jeff out and he rose to the challenge. Jeff completed the Bonzai roll(hanging on to the tube as it rolled over 2-3times in the water) at 30+ mph. The Victory was his, though nearly everyone gave the tube a good run.

The boat and Seadoo were running on fumes so it was off to the marina for snacks and gas. Upon entering the marina gift shop we were all greated by a sleeping yellow lab with very large nads, what a sight we all quickly vacated the building and headed out for some more water skiing and cruising. We called it a day and headed back to camp for showers and grilling. The campsite was still a bit on the warm side for 6:30 in the evening so we all decided to make a liquor store run and do some bowling. We arrived at the Stockton Bowling alley to find one car in the parking lot, and the building looking deserted. We were delighted to find that the establishment was open and we were the only patrons. The alley was like none that I had seen before, about eight lanes wide and decorated with some busy 1950s flare, some of it looking pretty authentic. The owner stated that she did not sell alcohol, nor could we bring in our own, but we were welcome to drink in the parking lot. Jeff and I wasted no time making the liquor store run while the rest of the gang set up shop.

We all soon realized that the pin machines were not working properly(one person might get 5 pins to start with, then get 8 for his/her next throw). We quickly brainstormed and came up with a new bowling game complete with rules and drinking games. Jeff added his touches to the town bowling league charts, while I assisted Pam with keeping the pins going in the back. We all soon got the tour of the alley and proceded to make numerous trips outside to partake in a beverage. Everyone was having a great time bowling in our own private bowling alley.

Matt and Jeff or should I call them Jefe and matteo, made another liquor run and ran into a couple of nice locals to mingle with. It was soon 11:00 and the Pam kicked us out. We all decided to take the xterras down to the Square and meet the local highschool pickup truck club. They were all very receptive to us and had numerous questions about the xterras. Billy Rae(his actual name), the local sherriff soon broke up the festivities and we decided to head back to camp for smores. On the way back, Jefe decided to get a little night run in with Matteo. He led Mateo down a dead-end trail consisting mostly of tall grass and trees. Matteo headed back as Jefe did a few more laps. The scene soon took on a Blair witch feel as we got lost in the forest. We soon found our way and it was back to camp. Everyone turned in soon after, what a long day

Everyone woke the next morning and broke camp. Leah and Pappa John headed south as the rest of us headed to breakfast. After breakfast we all headed our separate ways to our own showers and beds. What a weekend. I have never laughed so hard, or been so tired and sore in my life. What a great time to spend with good friends. I hope we can repeat this next year and get a few more peaple to attend

PS. Thanks to all of you for taking care of our boat and keeping thinks picked up. It made our chore of cleaning out the boat a breeze.
