Three
groups of caravanning Xterras (along with a Dodge and a camping van)
all left from their respective areas
of the
Heartland region Friday June 27, 2003, all converging on the same destination
point, Jason’s campground. When the eastside group, consisting of Elroy,
Buckshot, Suzyschnitz, LittleYellowShortBus, Caver, Sprince & Super_Black_Bitch,
arrived many of the others were already there and had setup camp. (Yellow_Xterra_Shortbus
arrived a little later with a minivan full of wood) From the Westside,
there was KCX & Solar Blonde, Camp Monkey & Russ, and Azxrock
flew in from Arizona and rode with Hotairx. From the Southern region,
Biohazard
met up with new member KarityKat and her friends, Ron, Heath, and Jeanna.
After everyone had unpacked and erected their sleeping quarters,
it was time to relax and mingle with the other club members around
the campfire.
Many different conversations went on, as well as some consumption of
alcoholic beverages. As the night went on, some members went
to bed as others stayed
up and mingled a bit more and Elroy’s chair ended up getting a little
too close to the fire. After everything died down, it was time
to head off
to sleep, since the bus was supposed to be at the campsite at 8:30AM
to pick everyone up.
Morning rolled around and members started waking up and getting themselves
ready for the float. The bus pulled up to the campsite around 8:50AM.
Everyone loaded up their coolers, dry bags, and water cannons.
It wasn’t too long
of a ride to the drop in point. Everyone exited the bus, removed
their belongings, and started to grab canoes. Then it was time
to figure
out who was riding with whom. When everything was all figured out,
it was time
to head downstream. Not more than 10 minutes into the float, the
water cannons were in full effect, no one was safe. After a little
while
the gunfights subsided and everyone was ready for a nice relaxing
float. Around
3pm there was a pullout point on the river. Everyone thought that
this must be the end. The guy on shore yelled out to us stating
that it
was the halfway point, and that the last bus was leaving at 6pm.
Nice relaxing
float was over, now it turned into paddle your ass off to make
it 9 miles in 3 hours. Everyone was able to do this with exception
to a
few stragglers.
After the float, everyone made it back to camp, cleaned up, and
started dinner. Not much went on at camp after the float, as
a lot of people
were pretty tired from the epic journey they took during the
day.
Sunday morning, as people awoke, they started taking down tents
and cleaning up the campsite. Caver made a delicious breakfast
of biscuits
and gravy
and everyone headed back to their respective regions.
All in all, this was a great float trip. Maybe next time it could
be a little shorter though.
See you at the Lakefest!!
